In it's natural state, Turquoise often contains dark mineral veins running throughout, caused by the stone's formation process. This veining is referred to as a matrix and may appear in black, yellow or brown. The massive Turquoise slab showcased in this cuff is an excellent example of one of the rarer kinds of matrixing, known as Spiderweb Matrix. Spiderwebbed Matrix is rare in and of itself in Turquoise stones, but even more so in American Turquoise. Adding to the rarity of this piece is the mine provenance, as this huge slab of stone was pulled from the famous Number Eight mine near Carlin, Nevada. Mining from the Number Eight mine began around 1929, and ended around 1976. The mine has yielded some of the highest grade, highest value turquoise ever found. This gorgeously set, extremely rare stone has been crafted into a gorgeous Sterling Silver cuff by noted artisan Able Arthur.
